Let’s talk layered necklaces. Ha ha just kidding, I mean, I’m all for layered necklaces (and I’m still constantly inspired by Olivia Benson’s gorgeous necklace collection on Law and Order SVU, here Me & Ro statement pieces are worth a watch alone!). But, while ordinarily my mind would be on spring fashion which is especially exciting living somewhere it’s cold and gloomy and the winters are long, but this year I’m not quite feeling it as much.
I’m no different from anyone else, this has been a weird and scary time, although I’m less frightened as time goes on, it’s a new illness, we’re learning more about it and we’ll have it under control soon I hope, I also figure every generation has to have something, WWII, Vietnam, a pandemic, who knows I guess you can’t get out of being human and living a full life if you don’t experience some global adversity. But as my fear lessens, the day to day becomes more challenging. I’ve been busier than ever and I thank everyone, we have been in business over 10 years and will continue on, that’s the beauty of blogs, websites and digital business, nothing can really stop you outside of the occasional weather-related power outage, but even though I don’t leave the house, life seems harder to manage! I hate the idea that I can’t just zip out to the grocery store if I need something, I hired our housekeeper to grocery shop for us since she is out of work and my husband is technically in an at-risk group, I’ve been ordering local when I can and trying to do takeout as well when possible but it’s a fine line you know, what’s safe, what’s not, how do you decide what businesses to support, etc.
I’ve been working 12 hour days since this started, I feel like it’s my job to bring consistency and reassurance to people, it’s so scary when you go on a website and they have a Covid-19 notice or delays or disruption in service, so I want to be the company that is proceeding as normal (which, we are!) plus I’ve been trying hard to provide more free downloads and fun stuff to help you pass the time (because who is not spending at least 4 hours a day on instagram, except me of course, lol!) , but I’m getting a little exhausted. So planning a light week this week, still accepting new clients, do get on the list if you are interested in a new blog, website or logo because it is filling up crazy fast! So I just wanted to say, if you’re like me and still going 90 to nothing, it looks like we’re going to be resting and rejuvenating here at home for awhile so give yourself a break! It took me a month to figure out it’s okay to do so lol! If you’re a Type A trying to dial it back to being a Type B+, tell me all about it! And if you’re a Type D who has been watching too much Netflix, tell me how you’re going to pump it up this week! We’re all in it together and I’m so so grateful for you!
Also, just so you know, money spent with Little Blue Deer during this time is going to good causes as well. I have been trying to pay local community members who are out of work to do tasks like grocery shopping and things we can’t do, as well as supporting local restaurants and artisans (we are currently in Vermont and there are many, many small businesses here who are struggling as the primary industry here is tourism). Also I will be paying for hair appointments in advance (I know it sounds silly, but hairdressers are really struggling as well and probably will take longer to open back up) and have additionally reached across international borders to support those I know personally who are struggling in both Bangladesh, India and Medellín, Colombia as poorer countries with fewer resources and infrastructure are very hard hit by this epidemic. In short, just like everyone else, are hearts here are open to those in need both stateside and abroad and you can rest assured that a portion of my income, as much as I can possibly manage, is being directed to help those less fortunate as always and during these trying times. Stay safe, stay well, stay creative!
