How to Manage Supsystic Galleries

If you have a website designed by Little Blue that features a portfolio, chances are it uses the Supsystic Gallery plugin.  This is one of my favorite gallery plugins because it is so versatile and easy to use.  Part of a website design package includes of course creating and installing your portfolio pages if applicable, but what happens if you want to add more galleries after your website is complete?  It’s pretty easy to do, and I have created a step by step tutorial to show you how.

First of all, generally each gallery lives on a separate page, so if you want to add a new gallery, you first will need to create a new page.

Step 1:

Go to Pages > Add New

Step 2:
Name your page, set it to full width if necessary and click the blue Publish button.  If you have questions about setting the page width or how to publish a page, you can view my tutorial on How to Add and Manage New Pages in WordPress here.  This tutorial also goes over how to add your new page to your navigation menu as well.

Step 3:

Now go back to your blog dashboard, and go to Gallery by Supsystic > New Gallery

Step 4:

Name your gallery.  Just choose a name you will remember, the gallery name will not show up on your live site.  Click Save.

Step 5:

Click on the Add Images button.  You will be directed to the regular WordPress media upload screen.  You can upload images from your computer here.

Step 6:
To edit items in a gallery, go to Supsystic Gallery > Galleries and choose the gallery you want to edit.  Then click the Images List button.

If you wish to add a caption to your images, you can add it here.  You can also add a link.

If you want to rearrange the order of photos in your gallery, simply click on the arrow to the left of the thumbnail.  You can just drag and drop your images up or down to rearrange.  Arrangement will be automatically saved.

If you wish to delete an image from your gallery, just click the box next to the image you want to delete.  Then, at the top, click the Delete Image button.  Image will be deleted from gallery.

Step 7:

Now go up to the top and click on the Properties button.

Step 8:

If Little Blue Deer has set up your galleries, the properties are already set to fit your website.  So all you need to do to make sure that these properties are applied to the new gallery is to scroll down and click the Import Settings button.

Step 9:

You can choose the gallery you want to import the settings from.  Just select the gallery name from the dropdown and click Import.

Step 10:

Now all you have to do is either CTRL + C or CMD + C (Mac) click to copy the shortcode.  Then, just navigate to the page you want your new gallery to appear on (this would be the page that you created in Steps 1 and 2), and CTRL + V or CMD + V to paste the shortcode on that page.  Update your page, and voila, the gallery will appear!  Easy, right?

Step 12 (optional):
Now, this tutorial also works if you are just wanting to add a new image to an existing gallery.  To add a new image to an existing gallery, go to Gallery by Supsystic > Galleries

Now select the gallery you want to add images to from your gallery list, and just click the Add Images button.

Click on the Add Images button next to the gallery you want to add images to.  Navigate back to Steps 5 and 6 to add your images, add a caption if necessary and a link if necessary.  If this is a landing page gallery (say you have a portfolio of all of your projects, and the users click on a project to be taken to that project page), all you need to do to add new landing images is follow the steps, and in the link section, just copy the URL of the page that the project is on and paste it into the link.  Boom!  The image will link to your page.  You do not need to save when adding images, captions or links, Supsystic automatically will update.

And that’s it!  Now you know how to add as many new pages and galleries as you wish, and how to update your existing galleries.  Have fun!
