Every WordPress custom blog design template includes image galleries.  These are really easy to manage with just a few steps.  If your blog designer has created galleries for you, you may want to add images to your galleries in the future as you maintain your blog or website.  It could not be simpler to keep your galleries updated with your latest images.

Step 1

First, go to the page that has the gallery you want to edit.  In the page editor, make sure that you are on the Visual tab, not the Text tab (in the upper left corner of your editor.  Then, click your mouse on any image in the gallery.  A little gray box will pop up with a pencil icon.  Click on the pencil icon.

Step 2

To add a new image to your gallery, just click on the blue Add to Gallery link on left side of page.  This will take you to the regular WordPress media upload page, where you can choose to either upload a new image by clicking on the Upload Files link, or you can also select an existing image from your Media Library.  It is okay to add more than one image at a time.

Step 3

After you have uploaded your images, just click on the image(s) you want to add.  Then click on the blue Add to Gallery button in the lower right corner.

Step 4

Now click on the image you just added.  You can skip this step if your galleries do not have captions or links.  If you want to link the image to a page on your website, open a new window in your browser and navigate to the page you want the image to link to.  Copy the URL of that page.  Then come back and paste the URL into the area in the right column that says “Gallery Link URL.”  NOTE:  There is also a link directly below the Gallery Link URL called Gallery Link Target.  In this dropdown, you can also select whether or not you want the link to open in a new window.

Step 5

Additionally, if your gallery has captions, you can enter the caption in the above-indicated area.

Step 6

Now, you can sort the order of how the images will appear in your gallery, if you wish.  To do this, just click on the image you want to move.  Then drag it into your desired position.  You cannot click and drag multiple images at once.

Step 7

Guess what?  That’s it!  All you have to do to save your changes is click on the blue Update Gallery button in the lower right corner.

Step 8

Now you just have to update your page to make sure that your changes are saved.  So just click on the blue Update button (as you would when making changes to any blog post or page) and you are done!  Wasn’t that easy?!

If your blog designer is not Little Blue Deer, your blog template may not include the WP Gallery Custom Links plugin, which offers the ability to add custom links to the images in your gallery, so be sure to download this plugin.  All you need to do is activate it, and when you go to edit your WordPress image galleries, you will have the option to add links to your images.
