I know it’s ice cold winter (we have had almost record lows in Vermont this year), and of course I crave warm, heavy carbs, but my thoughts also always turn to warm, tropical things as well because it’s so gray and cold. I’m a huge fan of food photography, there’s something about artists who take the most simple of items: a tangerine, a pitcher of milk, and turn them into true art. So here are some of my favorite warm, tropical and gorgeous food photos to perk up your day!
Already tired of the endless gray and cold of winter? Don’t forget your vitamin C! Even if oranges aren’t in season, try a fresh cold glass or orange juice or think outside the box with a smoothie instead of boring cold cereal or a fatty breakfast sandwich instead!
The holidays are upon us, or as we Southerners say, it’s eatin’ season! We’re already debating the pros and cons of frying down a turkey (pros: well duh, fried turkey! cons: you might burn your house down). Probably just going to order one. But it’s that time of year when all thoughts turn to food, so I’m sharing some of my favorite foodie inspo with you! Big plus: did you know that Little Blue Deer designs food blogs as well as style blogs? Well, you do now, check out our Foodie Portfolio page (click here!) and be sure to follow along on my blog!
I avoid red and green like the plague at Christmas time, I love it for other people but it’s just so against my whole personal aesthetic that it’s hard for me to get enthused about it – I love to see it at the mall, at restaurants or at other people’s houses but it’s not for me personally (minus my one pair of tight red capris that get trotted out every Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Fourth of July lol!). So I loved these beautiful pearl and pastel Christmas cookies, they’re so my style! I feel like if I had more time, cookie decorating would be right up my alley, I guess I’m kind of a fine artist so it appeals to me, though I still have a feeling my cookies would come out nothing like this either. Anyway, some good inspiration here, hope you’re doing something festive and fun this weekend!
This is just one of those photos that really makes me happy! If I ever get married again (God let’s hope not!) I want pink flamingos on my cake. And a little sign that says Yay! What do you think this is to celebrate I wonder? Anyway, I just ran across this on Pinterest, like the rest of world, when I need a little mental break during the day but can’t get up from my desk, I usually browse Facebook or Pinterest. But now I’m off Facebook because I’m So. Over. It. Instead of being cute and fun it’s like, a war!!! A war between friends! I keep my opinions to myself precisely for this reason, everyone is totally entitled to feel the way they feel, I actually think that’s fantastic! But the sniping, the negativity, I just can’t take it! So I look for happy flamingos on Pinterest, and there you go, I’m rejuvenated and refreshed, just like that.
I hope your weekend brings you lots of flamingos and lots of Yay!
Fall, what?! Living here in South Florida, fall is nothing more than a state of mind! It’s still in the 90s here on the first day of fall, and the humidity is at a peak. It’s also the height of hurricane season (and my prayers here at LBD go out to Puerto Rico and all islands of the Caribbean who have been hit so hard by Irma and Maria – tragic, just tragic). I don’t miss living in Rhode Island in the winter trust me but boy do I miss my New England falls! So for now we have to just make do, we can’t start wearing boots and sweaters (we really never can anyway) but the promise of our gorgeous winters is right around the corner which for now is enough. If you’re lucky enough to live in a state where there’s all four seasons well, Happy Fall, ya’ll!
Pour it up! A client suggested to me yesterday that I go have a nice glass of wine after the week we have been through here in South Florida, and I was like, yep, we have no gas or milk in Ft. Lauderdale but we sure do have liquor, lol! I’m not a big drinker but a glass of wine certainly holds its appeal, trust me. Things are sort of back to normal here but not quite, I’ve spent most of my week reflecting on gratitude, a lot of people are still really suffering and we have been so lucky. We are actually headed to the west coast of Florida to help my parents clean up so my weekend will not be nearly so glam or elegant as this, but I will be setting aside some time for a little R and R, sans the champagne, trust me. Whatever you’re doing, enjoy!
