I’ve posted ten thousand and twenty times about my love for fireplaces and mantels (and you’re going to hear me post ten thousand more now that the Vermont house hunt is on!). But these are the kind of mantels I love, not the cast iron stove/red brick ones they have up in New England. I love the European look of high ceilings, crown moulding and marble fireplaces (who doesn’t?). And no matter how hard you try, you simply can’t replicate this look without the original architecture.
But what I really love about fireplaces is that it’s an extra place to pile, stack and lean. A floating shelf just isn’t the same as a full fireplace mantel, it’s so elegant and gives you a focal point that a big screen tv or built-ins just can’t.
