I don’t know about you, but I love to travel. I just did my taxes (well, I don’t actually do them myself, one drawback to having a small business, taxes can get mighty complicated). So, having spent Valentine’s Day morning at the accountant’s office, which, if you’re wondering, was NOT romantic, I realized how much money I spent last year on travel. Which is good, if you’re a small business, trust me, you want to spend money if possible. But I’m ALL about getting on a plane (and don’t get me started on plane etiquette either, last time I flew a guy got mad at me because my rollerboard touched his wadded-up coat in the overhead – note to travelers, if the plane is small (and you know they all are nowadays), the overhead is no place for your coat, people, sorry, but it goes in the seat with you). But I really love the flexibility of owning my own company and being completely wireless, all I need is my laptop and I can work anywhere. So, I do. I am spending the winter in Ft. Lauderdale, spend a lot of time in Boston in the summer, and really go wherever I can get a good deal. Now, the problem with this is that if you are completely mobile, you’re also kind of always tied to the computer. So in a way it’s not really relaxing, because I can’t just stop working because I’m somewhere else, so it’s not really like a vacation, more like working in another environment. Which is actually good, as a designer it’s good to change it up some, you have to be stimulated or your work gets dull. But believe me I have been in many beautiful cities sweating it out and chugging coffee in a hotel room with CNN for company, so, it’s not all jet set glam.
